Boy, 9, struck by car in South Pointe parking lot

A 9-year-old boy was struck by a car in the parking lot of the South Pointe Shopping Center on Oak Ridge Drive on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Although the boy was not reported to be injured, he was taken to Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown for a precautionary examination, the sheriff’s office said.

The boy walked out from behind a vehicle and was struck by a Nissan van at about 5:08 p.m., Sgt. Daryl Sanders said.

The driver of the van will not be charged, Sanders said.

Fire damages pickup truck in Hancock

Authorities are investigating the cause of a fire that damaged a 2001 Ford pickup truck Tuesday afternoon at 1918 Pearre Road in Hancock, the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office said.

The fire was reported by a passerby shortly after 3 p.m. and caused about $5,000 in damages, a fire marshal’s office press release said.


Twelve firefighters from departments in Hancock, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., and Needmore, Pa., took about 10 minutes to control the fire, the release said.

Shed break-ins reported in Williamsport

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office has reported that multiple sheds were broken into on Cafoxa Drive in Williamsport on Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.

There was also a report of a fence being damaged on the same street.

More information will be released after reports are filed.

Vandalism, theft cases reported in Washington County

The following incidents were reported Tuesday and Wednesday by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office:

  • A fence was vandalized in the 9600 block of Cafoxa Drive.
  • Vandalism in the 13500 block of Paradise Drive.
  • A scooter was stolen in the 17000 block of Sterling Road.
  • Money was stolen in the 17200 block of Cole Road.
  • A dog was stolen in the 19800 block of Blue Heron Lane.
  • Scrap metal was stolen in the 1400 block of Oakmont Drive.
  • A theft was reported in the first block of South Main Street in Keedysville.
  • A theft was reported in the 17300 block of Valley Mall Road.
  • A lawnmower was stolen in the 8000 block of Dam No. 4 Road.
  • A generator and a welding cart were stolen in the 13700 block of Oliver Drive.
  • Money and a diaper bag were stolen from the 11200 block of Marbern Road.

Incidents reported to Waynesboro police

The following incidents were reported by the Waynesboro (Pa.) Police Department:


  • At 9:54 p.m., Tires were flattened in the 100 block of Cottage Street.


  • At 3:03 a.m., a DUI arrest in the 100 block of South Potomac Street.
  • At 8:34 p.m., a DUI arrest in the 300 block of South Potomac Street.
  • At 10:27 p.m., a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in the first block of Clayton Avenue.
