Elementary principal honored on his birthday

On Feb. 9, the staff and students at Maugansville Elementary celebrated the birthday of their beloved principal, Archie Van Norden. They surprised him by decorating his office and calling him "King for the Day."

Mr. Van Norden was a good sport and played along by wearing the crown and cape that was prepared by the art teacher, Debbie Geis.  Maugansville Burger King donated more than 700 paper crowns for the students to wear in the cafeteria for the "King's feast."  Waynesboro (Pa.) Burger King donated 100 paper crowns.  Some of the teachers also dressed up to match the royal theme.

Small celebrations, such as this one, build the caring climate the school is known for achieving.
