Mail Call - March 25

March 24, 2011

"This is in response to the caller from Hagerstown who says that conservatives love children and oppose killing them in the womb. I am so tired of our conservatives and Republicans thinking they own the moral compass argument in this country. There are atheists out there with more morals than Republicans. They don't want to pay for any poor people, they think CEOs should make $300 million and not be taxed, and it's OK for single-parent families and kids without parents to fend for themselves."

— Hagerstown

"All the prices are skyrocketing; gas prices, our national debt, groceries. How can we stand to have this man for another four years? We must elect another president in 2012."

— Boonsboro

"I called in several times over the past several years about police chases, that I hoped and prayed that they would stop before a tragedy took place, that I have children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren on the roads, and it's never anything serious enough to jeopardize innocent peoples' lives. I just saw on the local news where a tragedy has taken place in Waynesboro. I just don't think that police chases should really take place. Like I said, it's never anything that serious."

— Hagerstown

"Buildings in Europe, hundreds of years. Buildings in Hagerstown, 50 years? Unbelievable."

— Hagerstown

"So my son goes to the bank the other day to cash his federal income tax return, and they refuse to cash it because he didn't have an equal amount of money in the bank. When he asked why they wouldn't cash it, they said it might bounce. They put a four-day hold on it. Then he was able to access it. I think it's pretty funny when the banks don't trust their own government."

— Hagerstown

"I can't believe the gall of the Washington County school board article in the paper of March 16, 2011. First of all, they want a pay increase, when city, county, state employees and retirees have not gotten a cost-of-living increase in several years. People on Social Security also have not gotten a cost-of-living increase. Secondly, they want the county to buy buses for $1.74 million, when they have money accumulated from surplus. Sounds like they have been asking and getting more money than they can really need."

— Hagerstown

"I'm vastly amused at the quantity of calls coming in to Mail Call about the Bible being changed or altered in any fashion. I have to assume that all these objectors can actually read ancient Aramaic."

— Sharpsburg

"I just want to remind people that I was a state employee, I paid into my state, my insurance each month, and now that I'm retired I'm still paying off of my retirement check. And however, we're not getting anything free, and if you were living off of my state pension, you would not be able to live in Brightwood East, believe me."

— Hagerstown

"Just to let all know, if you would like to read the will of a deceased person you can visit their local office of register of wills  (in) their town and pay for a copy of this document. If you feel like you have been cheated in an estate this would be a good thing to do. You have only a limited time, so don't delay. Wish I would have done this."
