Gwendolyn Elizabeth Kendle Roulette, 83, a resident of Ravenwood Lutheran Village in Hagerstown, Md., and formerly of Sharpsburg, died on Monday, March 21, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown.
Born in Hagerstown on Oct. 2, 1927, she was the daughter of Elvin Roy and Rhoda May Sprecher Kendle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Frederick Roulette, in 1989.
She grew up in Williamsport, Md.
She was an alumna of Williamsport High School in 1945. She earned a bachelor's degree, majoring in home economics, from the University of Maryland in 1949. She also took graduate courses at the University of Maryland, Gettysburg College and Frostburg College. She taught for 26 years in the Washington County, Md., school system, primarily at Clear Spring and Boonsboro schools.
She was a lifetime member of the Rehoboth United Methodist Church of Williamsport. She was also a member of the Washington County Retired Educational Personnel Association and the Maryland Retired Teachers Association.
She enjoyed gardening and homemaking, and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by three children, Ann Marie Downey and her husband, Lee, of Williamsport, the Rev. Paula Elizabeth Roulette, of western New York, and Jay Frederick Roulette of Columbia, Md. She is also survived by one niece, one nephew and two grand-nieces.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, John Martin Kendle and Leroy Kendle, and two sisters, Missouri Kendle Stahl and Della Kendle Anderson.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, March 25, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Rehoboth United Methodist Church, Williamsport, with the Rev. Dr. James E. Swecker officiating.
The family will receive friends at the Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, on Thursday, March 24, 2011, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral home will be open after 9 a.m. Thursday for the convenience of family and friends.
Graveside committal services will be held at Mountain View Cemetery, Sharpsburg, prior to the service at the church on Friday, March 25, 2011 at 10 a.m., with the Rev. James E. Swecker officiating.
