Joseph Michael Kinzer Sr., 85, of 11834 Kieffer Funk Road, Smithsburg, Maryland, died on Thursday, March 17, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center.
Born March 6, 1926, in Williamsport, Md., he was the son of the late Rev. Benjamin Franklin Kinzer and Alice Amanda Fleck Kinzer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Kinzer.
He retired from Hall's Motor Freight in Halfway, Md.
He was a member of Williamsport American Legion Post 202. He was a former member of Williamsport Redmen No. 84, and the Community Rescue Service.
He loved fishing, camping, baseball and was a big fan of NASCAR and the World Wrestling Federation.
He is survived by three daughters, Joyce Yvonne Krause and her husband, Michael, of Clear Spring, Md., Marion Virginia Fear of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Carolyn Amanda Mae Burger and husband, Pete, of Hagerstown; four sons, Joseph Michael Kinzer Jr. of Clear Spring, Raymond Franklin Kinzer and wife, Jackie, of Baltimore, Md., Robert Theodore Kinzer and wife, Sheila, of Hagerstown, and David Wayne Kinzer and wife, Debbie, of Hagerstown; one brother, Paul Kinzer of Williamsport; 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Richard Leon Kinzer; three sisters; and one grandson, Ricky Shane Fear.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. John Koontz will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. Military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the Washington County AMVETS Post 10 and Marine Corps League of Hagerstown.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.
