March 18, 2011

Hagerstown officials provided the following information about street closings for two projects on Monday:

• Work crews from Brandenburg Industrial Service Co. will begin removing a generator from the former Washington County Hospital on East Antietam Street Monday at 7 a.m., weather permitting.

A crane will be used to lift the generator onto a truck for transport, requiring the closure of East Antietam Street to vehicular and pedestrian traffic between King Street and South Cannon Avenue.

A detour will direct motorists around the Antietam Street closure onto other city streets.

The contractor expects the work to be completed by 4 p.m. Monday, when full access will be restored on East Antietam Street. The rain date for this work is Tuesday, March 22.

Emergency vehicles will not be able to pass through the portion of East Antietam Street between King Street and South Cannon Avenue while the closure is in effect.

• Work crews from Digging & Rigging Inc. will use a crane to place equipment on the roof of the building at 7 East Washington St.

The work will require the closure of  East Washington Street between Potomac Street and Renaissance Way beginning at 8 p.m. Monday.

The contractor expects the work to be completed by 6 a.m.  Tuesday, at which time full access will be restored on East Washington Street.

During the closure, a detour will direct traffic around the work area via South Potomac, Antietam  and Locust streets.

Emergency vehicles will not be able to pass through the portion of East Washington Street between Potomac Street and Renaissance Way while the closure is in effect.

Anyone wishing additional information about the closures may contact the city Department of Parks and Engineering at 301-739-8577, ext. 125.
