Mail Call - March 18

March 17, 2011

"Concerning the Supreme Court's ruling of the case of Snyder vs. Phelps, who does Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church people think they are anyway, to go around playing God, judging everyone except themselves? I am not for gay marriage in this country today, but I feel to each his or her own. It's their life. But I feel and believe, as I said before, people should be able to mourn and grieve in peace over their loved ones ... without despicable people such as those picketing nearby."

— Greencastle, Pa.

"Responding to complaints about high gas prices, don't blame the government. You need to blame Wall Street. In one word: Greed."

— Waynesboro, Pa.

"I wanted to call to say that I'm disappointed and upset that my senator and delegates who represent Washington County voted against same-sex marriage and equality. It's not just about hospital visitation, it's not just about the rights. It is about my Social Security, it is about my pension, things that I've paid into."

— Hagerstown

"When is the city government going to realize that the 'If you build it, they will come' philosophy isn't going to work with the old CVS building? Why not do as developers do, and remodel it to suit a tenant, after a tenant is found? Investing any amount of taxpayer dollars in this economy is irresponsible and not necessary."

— Hagerstown

"I'd like to ask a question. Maybe you think it's a dumb one, but I'd like to ask it anyway. With the unemployment rate in Hagerstown the way it is, why did they have to give the demolition to somebody from Chicago, Ill., to demolish the Washington County Hospital? Why couldn't they have given it to somebody in Hagerstown, with the unemployment rate the way it is?"

— Falling Waters, W.Va.

"This is in reference to the dump up on Route 40, in reference to how many people don't tie down or tarp their trash, and you see it every day, going into the dump. Why isn't this rule maintained?"

— Hagerstown

"When the Republican elite have beaten down all the serfs and put them in their proper place, will we be able to have some of the crumbs from their table?"

— Boonsboro
