SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. — Tanner Everton had three hits and three RBIs for Jefferson as the Cougars shut out Berkeley Springs 9-0 to win their season opener Wednesday.

Jamie Richard had three hits, including a home run, and two RBIs, Trevor Poe scored two runs and Logan Johnson had two RBIs for the Cougars (1-0).

Miss Utility to sponsor Harper's at-bats for Suns

HANOVER, Md. — Miss Utility — the excavation and demolition notification center for Maryland and Washington, D.C. — announced that it will be the first official sponsor of Bryce Harper’s at-bats during his stay this season with the Hagerstown Suns.

Harper was drafted first overall by the Washington Nationals last year.

Prior to each of his at-bats, the Suns will announce, “Now batting, Bryce Harper, brought to you by Miss Utility, reminding you to call 811 before you dig.” Miss Utility will also receive video board recognition throughout Bryce Harper’s at bats.

Softball players needed

There is an opening for players to compete on a Washington County Girls Softball League 18-and-over girls team, which would play doubleheaders on Thursday at the Pinesburg Softball Complex.
