Genevieve Shirley Cook, 82, of 27 S. Martin St., Clear Spring, went to be with her Lord on March 11, 2011, from Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown, Md.

She was the daughter of the late Richard Roman Shirley and Fannie Eichelberger Shirley. She was born at home in Clear Spring and lived in the same house her entire life.  

She was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Clear Spring and was retired from the Washington County Public Schools as a cafeteria assistant.  

She is survived by her two sons, Larry F. Cook and Jeff L. Cook, both of Clear Spring; four nephews, Allen "Freddie" Shirley of Berkley Springs, W.Va., Richard "Dick" Shirley of Maugansville, Gary Shirley and Dennis Shirley, both of New Cumberland, Pa.; one niece, Elaine Fahnestock, of Carlisle, Pa., three half-nephews, Ardell "Tuck" Stotler, of Hagerstown and Ray Kelly and Bill Kelly, both of Clear Spring; one half niece, Janet "Sis" Andrews, of Hagerstown; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and a lifelong friend, Mary J. Hull, of Clear Spring.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ellsworth F. "Cookie" Cook, in 1993; a sister, Vera S. Hines; brothers, Ralph Shirley and Marvin Shirley; half-brother, Charles Kelly; and nephew Donald Shirley.

Genevieve donated her body to the Maryland State Anatomical Board for scientific research. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2011, at 2 p.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 30 S. Martin St., Clear Spring. Pastor Elaine Swinehart will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 198, Clear Spring, MD 21722.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home, Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring.
