CATONSVILLE, Md. — James Lewis Abbott Sr., 84, a resident of Catonsville, passed away March 8, 2011, at Ellicott City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
The son of the late John and Martha Abbott, he is survived by his son, James Lewis Abbott Jr., and grandchildren, Shawn and Jaime Abbott.
He served his country in the European theater in World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement in ground combat. Later he graduated from dental school at the University of Maryland and became a prominent orthodontist in Catonsville. He retired to a 100-acre farm outside Hagerstown, Md., which he converted to a successful bed and breakfast. His final years were spent at the Parkview Retirement Community in Catonsville, where he enjoyed playing the trumpet and watching Turner Classic Movies.
A memorial service was held Saturday, March 12, 2011, at the Emanuel United Methodist Church in Catonsville.
