Potpie supper planned at Mount Tabor Lutheran Church

Mount Tabor Lutheran Church, at 14615 Fairview Church Road, will hold a ham and chicken slippery potpie supper Saturday, March 26, from 4 to 7 p.m.

Baked goods will be available.

The church is handicapped accessible. The public is welcome.

Here’s what’s happening at Clear Spring Library:

On Thursday, March 24, at 7 p.m., author Bob O’Connor will give a talk on Ward Hill Lamon. O’Connor has written a book about Lamon, Abraham Lincoln’s personal bodyguard, and edited a book penned by Lamon. On Sunday, March 27, at 1:15 p.m., the movie “Gone With the Wind” will be shown.

Rummage sale

St. Paul’s United Methodist Church on Tedrick Drive in Big Pool will hold a rummage sale Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The sale will be held rain or shine. The public is welcome.

Minstrel show

The Clear Spring Lions Club’s 60th annual minstrel/variety show will be Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Clear Spring High School Auditorium.

This year’s anniversary theme is “Celebrating Years Gone By.”

Entertainment by the Tri-State Stage Band will begin one hour before the show. Admission costs $5 for adults, $3 for children and is free for preschoolers. All persons attending must have a ticket. Tickets are good only for the date printed on the ticket. Advance tickets may be purchased at the Clear Spring Hardware Store at 136 Cumberland St. Tickets may also be purchased at the door or from any Clear Spring Lions Club member or member of the show. The newly renovated school auditorium is handicapped-accessible. Proceeds from the show will benefit the Lions’ community projects. For more information, call Larry Smith at 301-733-2912.

Food before the show

There will be several opportunities to enjoy dinner before the minstrel show.

The Clear Spring Band will hold a spaghetti dinner Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Clear Spring High cafeteria. The menu includes spaghetti, salad, bread, dessert, coffee and iced tea. Tickets cost $6.75 for adults and $4.75 for those ages 2 to 12. Tickets are available at the door or from the Clear Spring Band.

The Clear Spring High School Athletic Department will sponsor a roast beef dinner Saturday, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The menu includes roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, applesauce, cake, hot and cold drinks. Tickets cost $7.50 for adults and $5 for students.

The Athletic Department will sponsor a soup/sandwich sale Sunday, beginning at 11:30 a.m. The menu includes bean, chicken corn, and vegetable soup, country ham sandwiches, steamers, hot dogs, pies and cakes, Additional desserts and drinks will be available.

 Did you know?

Did you know that George Zimmerman was a canal boat captain on the C&O Canal from 1907 to 1914? He was better known as “ Elwood.” His father, “Bob” Zimmerman, also was a canal boat captain. He boated out of Ernstville, a small community in Big Pool.
