Girl Scout Troop 47888 and local teens participated in the fifth annual Step Showcase Competition on Feb. 26 at Trinity Washington University in Washington, D.C.

According to Monique Broadus, the troop traveled last year to see the competition and the girls decided that it would be fun to try it.

She said although they did not win the competition, “they were winners in our eyes as their parents, families and friends cheered them on.”

She said Akelah Taylor, the step team leader, did an outstanding job working with the girls.

Jane Barvir, Troop leader for the girls at Memorial Recreation Center, and Chaka Burnett and Paula Burnett worked hard making sure the girls made it to practice.

A special thank you to Anastasia Broadus, Trinity Washington University student and adult Girl Scout, who was the step team adviser and made trips to Hagerstown to make sure the girls were doing well.
