MIDDLETOWN, Md. — Mrs. Ruth Virginia Fogle, 71, of Middletown, died Thursday, March 10, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown after a brief illness.  

Born June 6, 1939, near Libertytown, Md., she was the daughter of the late Robert F. Long Sr. and Erma Catherine Brandenburg Long Green.  

She was the wife of Samuel  L. Fogle, her husband of 53 years.  Mrs. Fogle was a member of the Frederick Church of the Brethren.  She was formerly employed with F & M Bank, Frederick, Md., for 23 years prior to her retirement.

She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, birds, working at the Frederick Fair in the household department, crafts, and caring for school-age children.  

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a daughter, Ruthie White, and husband, Ronald, of Frederick; a son, Randael D. Fogle, and wife, Cheryl, of Middletown; four grandchildren, Richard L. Nalley Jr. and wife, Samantha, Sherry L. Nalley, Patrick D. and Alexander  L. Fogle; two great-grandchildren, Kaila Wise and Logan Nalley; two sisters, Sarah Kathryn Gastley and husband, Charles, of Jefferson, Md.; Martha Ellen Julian and husband, Steve, of Smithfield, Pa.; a stepsister, Mary Fogle, and husband, Bernie, of West Virginia; two stepbrothers, Charles Green and wife, June, of Missouri, and James Green and wife, Nancy, of Cascade; sister-in-law, Irene Long, of Mount Pleasant; brother-in-law, Warren Martin, of Myersville, and several nieces and nephews.  

She was preceded in death by a sister, Annabelle Lee Martin, and a brother, Robert Francis Long II.  

A funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 15 at Frederick Church of the Brethren, 201 Fairview Ave., Frederick, with the Rev. James Flora, former pastor, and the Rev. Sandi Rogers, associate pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.  

The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 404 S. Main St., Woodsboro, Md., from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, March 14.
