Police are searching for a man who robbed the American Federal Credit Union in Chambersburg Thursday evening, the Chambersburg Police Department said in a news release.

The robbery happened at about 6 p.m. at the credit union at 405 Wayne Ave., police said.

The suspect was described as a black man between 6 feet and 6 feet 2 inches tall, with a thin build, and short, dark hair, police said.

He was wearing a green knit cap with fake dreadlocks attached, a blue waist-length jacket, knit gloves, sunglasses and a white surgical mask, police said.

He brandished a black, semautomatic handgun, police said.

The man was seen removing the knit cap as he left the credit union and walked north on South Fourth Street and east onto Cumberland Avenue, where he was seen entering the passenger side of a white vehicle described as a midsized, newer-model vehicle with a spoiler on the trunk lid, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Chambersburg Police Department at 717-264-4131.
