Two rescued from truck in creek

March 07, 2011

Two people had to be rescued Sunday night when their pickup truck was swept away in Sideling Hill Creek off Rizer Road, Allegany County Emergency officials said Monday.

The Allegany County Swift Water Rescue Team freed Sam and Rena Turner of Little Orleans and their dog from the pickup, according to a press release from the Allegany County Bureau of Police.

The Turners tried to drive across the creek at a typically passable area at about 8:30 p.m. when their truck was swept away by rapidly moving water, officials said. Rescuers used a boat to take the Turners from the bed of the truck to shore.

The Hancock Fire Department and Clear Spring Ambulance service responded to the scene, the release said.
