Two rescued after pickup truck swept away in Sideling Hill Creek

March 07, 2011

Two people had to be rescued Sunday night when their pickup truck was swept away in Sideling Hill Creek off Rizer Road, Allegany County Emergency officials said.

The Allegany County Swift Water Rescue Team freed Sam and Rena Turner, of Little Orleans, and their dog from the pickup, according to a press release from the Allegany County Bureau of Police.

The Turners tried to drive across the creek at a typically passable area at about 8:30 p.m., when their pickup was swept away by rapidly moving water, officials said. Rescuers used a boat to take the Turners from the bed of the truck to shore.

The Hancock Fire Department and Clear Spring Ambulance service responded to the scene, the release said.
