“Beware, our power company has charged a co-worker of mine for $500 for one month. He has a one-bedroom apartment and doesn’t use much electric at all.”
— Greencastle, Pa.
“All these states would not have all this debt if these state workers were not given so much more benefits than we that have less benefits by working for private business. If the higher-income people would pay more taxes, we would not have to cut necessary programs for the poor, low-income people or fire and rescue people, as some cities may do. I am not asking for any help, but some do need help, and I think the high-income are very selfish, not wanting to be taxed anymore. End these stupid wars and stop borrowing money.”
— Williamsport
“In regards to the person from Maugansville who stated that they were tired of people complaining about the price for the arts school, and exactly how much it does, I wonder if this person from Maugansville knows the full price tag for the arts school; that being $634,000 a year for 20 years, on a lend/lease program. I wonder when that $634,000 and those 20 years are ... will the school system still have to pay rent on that building?”
— Smithsburg
“I see local organizations are trying to do more with less of the taxpayers’ money, which is public funds. I think this is good because everybody has to do more with less. ... Don’t keep asking the taxpayers for subsidies. And as far as the school board, if the school chief has been traveling within the limits of what’s subsidized for her, the next superintendent should be able to do just as much with less. They can cut back the funding.”
— Hagerstown
“One year ago today, my water bill was $56.42. This February it was $101.50. That’s too much.”
— Halfway
“Nice article the other day about the Cape Air and Allegiant airline, the 20,426 people that flew in and out of Washington County Regional Airport in 11 months, a subsidy of $100,000 a month. One problem with the article, and I hope they clarify this: 20,426, with that little small plane that I see in the picture in the paper? How many of those was Cape Air in 11 months and how many was Allegiant?”
— Cavetown
“Now that The Herald-Mail has published the expense accounts and traveling expenses of administrators at the BOE and their elected officials, how about doing the same for the county commissioners and their administration, as well as the City of Hagerstown council and their administrators?”
— Clear Spring
“Love your articles, Tim Rowland. Thanks for your humor and perception. You do a great job writing about what many of us are feeling.”
— Hagerstown
“To the person called in about the Noah’s Ark story was passed down by word of mouth before written down: You need to read your Bible. You know, you are so ridiculous. How can you say things like that? The flood killed everybody except Noah and his family, and two of every kind of animal. And yes, they can repopulate the earth. Get the story straight.”
— Hagerstown
