COCOA, Fla. — Greencastle-Antrim High School graduate Cole Sellers threw a five-inning perfect game with six strikeouts Saturday as Hagerstown Community College beat the French Nationals 13-0 in the first game of a doubleheader sweep for the Hawks at the Cocoa Expo.

The Hawks’ pitching was nearly as dominant in their second game as Jay Shafer threw six innings of two-hit ball in a 14-0 win over Vermillion Community College.

“Both starters today threw the ball really well. We only walked one guy all day,” said HCC coach Scott Jennings. “That’s what we needed.”

HCC’s bats were hot, too. The Hawks (3-3) rapped out 23 hits in the two games.

It was a far better performance than the last for HCC, a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Southeastern (N.C.) Coommunity College last Sunday.

“We obviously played a lot better ball today, and the two teams we played today weren’t the same level of competition as (Southeastern),” Jennings said. “But I’m happy with what I saw out of our team today.”

Seth Poffenberger had four hits and two RBIs to support Sellers in the first game. Tyler Walsh and Lazaro Torres each had two hits and Walsh drove in two runs.

In the second game, Rashad Talley had three hits and Walsh homered and drove in two runs. Walsh, Danny Morris, Josh Knupp and Justin Martinez each had two hits.

Brian Lesher pitched the seventh inning in relief of Shafer and struck out the side.
