Unified in bocce and in championship

The Clear Spring unified sports bocce ball team won the Maryland Division 8 state championship on Thursday.

The event was the first unified sports tournament held in the United States, making the title the first for Clear Spring as well as Washington County.

The Blazers beat Fort Hill 11-5, Northern Garrett 10-6 and Boonsboro 16-0 to reach the championship round of the double-elimination tournament. Boonsboro beat Clear Spring 16-0 to force a final game, which Clear Spring won, 7-4.

In total, 84 schools and more than 600 students participated across all divisions.
