Glenn Alden Jeffrey, 89, of River Ridge Drive, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011, at the John F. Keever Solace Center.

A native of Mount Carmel, Pa., he was a son of the late Clayton and Florence Zimmerman Jeffrey.

Mr. Jeffrey was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Naval Armed Guard and participated in the D-Day invasion at Normandy. He was also a charter member of the Parkville American Legion Post 183 in Baltimore, Md., and an active member of the 29th Division Association.

He worked for United Airlines as a freight agent for 34 years at Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, retiring in 1984. After his retirement, he actively volunteered for numerous organizations, including the Morris Mechanic Theatre in Baltimore and the Washington County Art Museum in Hagerstown, Md. He enjoyed painting, woodworking, traveling and sharing time with family.

He will be remembered for the twinkle in his eye, incredible hugs, sense of humor and his warm and generous heart.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jeanne Foltz Bachtell Jeffrey; a daughter, Cynthia Susan Jeffrey Krimmelbein and husband, Michael Charles Krimmelbein; son, Thomas David "Skip" Jeffrey and his wife, Joyce Lynn Braun Jeffrey; and son, Scott Alden Jeffrey and his wife, Jeanette Marie McGehan Jeffrey; and grandchildren, Kerri Lynn Jeffrey Lambert and husband, Matthew Glenn Lambert, Matthew Michael Jeffrey, Hannah Alden Jeffrey, and Sarah Kathryn Jeffrey.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts on May 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. Reception to follow.
