Cinderella's Closet opens Friday, offering low prices on prom attire

A prom gown or formal suit is usually a teen's biggest expense for prom.

That's why Washington County Technical High School Student Government Association is hosting its annual Cinderella's Closet fundraiser from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 4, at the school, 50 W. Oak Ridge Drive.

No dress for the event will be sold for more than $50.

The monies raised from the event benefits the Humane Society of Washington County. Last year, the school raised $450 for the event.

To add some incentive, Technical High School Principal Jeffrey Stouffer and shelter Executive Director Paul Miller agreed to dress in prom attire — women's prom attire — for the presentation of the donation at 9:15 a.m. Friday, March 18, at Tech High  — if the students reach their goal.

 Judi Wilson of Potomac Bridals, at 20 Public Square in Hagerstown, will outfit the men.

Marjorie Kellman, Skills USA and SGA lead adviser, is overseeing the fundraiser. 

"We are very excited to have this additional motivation for the kids to reach their goal of $600," Kellman said.

Cinderella's Closet will accept donations of dresses and formal attire for men and women until Wednesday, March 2, at Tech High during school hours, and at the Humane Society, 13011 Maugansville Road in Hagerstown.
