MAUGANSVILLE — Each year for the past 20 years, the Maugansville Ruritan Club has sponsored an essay contest for fifth-grade students at Maugansville Elementary School.

This year’s topic was “How Important Are My Constitutional Rights?”

Approximately 125 students submitted written essays.

Student winners, their parents and fifth-grade teachers were guests at the Feb. 16 monthly dinner meeting.

Each of the three winners was asked to present her winning essay to the club members and then received a U.S. savings bond for her winning essay.

  • First place — Madeline Miller, winner of a $100 savings bond
  • Second place — Ashley Romero, winner of a $75 savings bond
  • Third place — Dara Holloman, winner of a $50 savings bond
Parents and fifth-grade teachers were introduced, and the Maugansville staff thanked the club for its continuous support of the program and school activities for many years.

The Ruritan Club thanks the winners, principal and staff at the school for their cooperation and support of this activity.
