Mary Patsy "Pat" Tewalt, 70, ran into the arms of Jesus from Western Maryland Center on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011. She had met the challenges of a stroke in 1977 and uterus cancer in 2006.

She was the daughter of Robert Franklin and Mary Elizabeth Bagent Tewalt.

She attended Howard Street Elementary School, South Potomac Junior High School and graduated from South Hagerstown High School in 1958. She continued her education at Frostburg State Teachers College, graduating in 1963. She also earned her master's degree from Shippensburg State University.

She taught English at North Hagerstown High School from 1963 to 1985.

She was an avid reader and over the past 10 years had written numerous stories and a book. She enjoyed ceramics, needle crafts and was a member of Western Maryland Red Hats.

Patsy was a member of Hagerstown Grace Brethren Church, where she had been involved in the Women's Missionary Society. She coached the quiz team and taught the senior high Sunday school class. She was a member of the pastoral staff at WMC and taught a Bible study group. She was also a member of the WCPEA.

She is survived by her sister, Linda Lee Tewalt, and a number of cousins.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. Chaplin Alan Clingan will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m.

Patsy's wish was that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Trinity Broadcasting Network "Second Chance", P.O. Box A, Santa Ana, CA 92711.
