Thomas Patrick Walsh, 59, of Pecktonville, went peacefully to be with the Lord, Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011, at his home with his loving wife.

Born Jan. 24, 1952, in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of the late James Patrick Walsh and Virginia May (Zittle) Walsh.

He was a member of Parkhead United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Western Maryland Sportsman Club, Piney Mountain Sportsman Club, National Rifle Association, and Joseph C. Herbert American Legion Post 222 SAL.

He was a 1970 graduate of St. Maria Goretti High School. He was employed as a security guard at Fort Detrick, and retired from Roxbury Correctional Institution after 32 years.

Tom was an avid hunter and loved baseball, especially the New York Yankees. Tom pitched his way through many championships from American Little League to the Colt League World Series Championship of 1967, the first to be brought to Hagerstown.

He was an extraordinary husband, father and friend.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Jacalyn K. (Myers) Walsh, of Pecktonville; a daughter, Ami R. Schultz of Fairfax, Va.; a son, Steven B. Walsh of Hagerstown; a sister, Patricia A. Goodrich, and husband, Patrick, of Hagerstown; a brother, Michael J. Walsh, and wife, Frances, of Hagerstown; father-in-law, Oscar D. Myers of Hagerstown; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Steven and Beverly Sowers of Smithsburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Parkhead United Methodist Church, 9512 National Pike, Big Pool, Md. The Rev. Scott Summers and the Rev. Dennis Whitmore will officiate. Burial will be in Parkhead Cemetery in Big Pool.

The family will receive friends Sunday at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring, from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
