W.Va. man charged in armed robbery at Sheetz store near Hagerstown

HAGERSTOWN — A Bunker Hill, W.Va., man was in custody Friday morning following an armed robbery of the Sheetz store at 17550 Virginia Ave. south of Hagerstown, the Washington County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

Robert Alan Conner, 23, of 93 Larry Way, Bunker Hill, was charged with armed robbery, robbery, three counts of first-degree assault, three counts of second-degree assault, felony theft and use of a handgun during the commission of a felony or violent crime, according to the release.

He was being held at the Washington County Detention Center on $500,000 bond, the release said.

The robbery was reported at 12:45 a.m. Friday, the release said.

A man wearing a ski mask walked into the store, displayed a handgun and demanded money. After receiving an undisclosed amount of money, he fled, the release said.

Officer Chris Little of the Hagerstown Police Department, who was assisting in the search for the suspect, saw a vehicle traveling north on Virginia Avenue, the release said.

Little followed the vehicle to the Food Lion supermarket on Wilson Boulevard in Hagerstown, where it turned in to the parking lot. When Little approached the vehicle, he saw the driver counting money, the release said.

Money and a handgun were found in the vehicle, the release said.
