Capitol Theatre Center's 2010 Be A Star! campaign about $5,000 short of goal

February 24, 2011

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Capitol Theatre Center's 2010 Be A Star! campaign concluded Jan. 31 just shy of the $125,000 goal, officials announced Thursday.

Campaign chairman John Massimilla said in a news release that more than $120,000 in donations was contributed to the campaign.

"Though the amount fell short by approximately $5,000, there is a silver lining. The good news is the community showed a strong sense of support once again," Massimilla said.

There was a 4 percent increase in the number of donors, according to the release.

"It is very true that all donations add up and have an impact whether it is a $25 donation or a donation of $1,000 or more," Massimilla said.

Linda Boeckman, manager for Capitol Theatre Center, said tickets for upcoming shows at the theater are selling well.

Those shows include Dublin's Traditional Irish Cabaret on Friday, March 11 at 8 p.m., and National Christian Choir on Saturday, April 9 at 4 and 7:30 p.m

She said the response to new endeavors such as Creative Kids @ the Capitol program, which are geared toward engaging young people in the arts, have been very positive.

"As with all nonprofit theaters throughout the country, ticket sales are only a portion of the income needed to sustain operations," Boeckman said in the release.

"Initiatives such as the Be A Star! campaign will always be needed to bridge the gap. The Be A Star! funds that were raised are greatly appreciated and will help us bridge that gap," she said. "The optimistic attitude and sense of gratitude of our staff, volunteers and board of trustees, combined with loyal patrons and generous donors, keep us all looking forward to a bright future."
