Greencastle advances on buzzer-beater

Greencastle 64, Susquehanna Township 63

SUSQUEHANNA TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Denver Cordell scored on a six-foot shot with 1.5 seconds left to give ninth-seeded Greencastle-Antrim a one-point victory in the opening round of the PIAA Class AAA Region 3 Tournament.

A.J. Dean scored on a three-point play with 9.5 seconds remaining to give eighth-seeded Susquehanna a one-point lead. Denton Cordell found his brother open under the basket for the winning score.

Denver Cordell led Greencastle with 21 points and six rebounds while Corey Meyers  added 16, including four 3-pointers. Dean led Susquehanna Township with 23 points while Sakquon Sheppard added 19.

With the victory, Greencastle advances to meet top-seeded Lancaster Catholic on Friday at 8 p.m. at the Giant Center in Hershey, Pa. Lancaster Catholic advanced by defeating 16th-seed Gettysburg on Tuesday.

Saint James 70, Georgetown Day School 51

WASHINGTON — Alec Wheeler scored eight of his 17 points in the second quarter as Saint James used a press to take control of the game and close the Mid Atlantic Conference regular season with a victory over Georgetown Day School.

The Saints (15-9, 5-7) switched to the zone press and Wheeler by converting steals into easy baskets. Saint James outscored Georgetown Day 16-4 in the quarter to take a 33-14 lead at the half.

Aaron Wilmore led Saint James with 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Leonard Livingston added 12 points, 13 rebounds and seven blocked shots. Wheeler finished with six steals.

Paris Ritter had a double-double with 10 points and 19 rebounds to help Highland View Academy to a win over Shenandoah Valley Christian in overtime on Monday.

Aaron Smith led Highland View (14-6) with 15 points. Charlie Byrd added 14 points and Marlon Marques had nine points and six assists.
