Karen Sonja Marie Sheppard Angle, 86, of 109 Bryan Place, Hagerstown, Md., died Monday, Feb. 21, 2011, after a long illness.

Born Dec. 16, 1924, in Faxe, Denmark, she was the daughter of the late Charles Leroy Sheppard and Emilie Louise Elisabeth Olsen Sheppard of Hagerstown.

She was a devoted, neighborhood school crossing guard for 41 years.  Since 1939, she had remained a member of St. Matthew's United Methodist Church.

She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary Elks Lodge No. 378; Auxiliary No. 694 Fraternal Order of Eagles; Auxiliary American Legion Morris Frock Post 42 and Auxiliary United Transportation Union Lodge No. 176.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 69 years, Eugene Lewis Angle; one son, Lawrence Eugene Angle of Hagerstown; two grandsons, 1St Lt. Lawrence Eugene Angle II, U.S. Army, of Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, and Peter Nicholas Angle, and wife, Nicole, of Baltimore, Md. In addition to a niece, Kimberly Sheppard Lushbaugh, she is survived by several nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ida Inger Tewalt and Betty June Young; three brothers, Svend David Emil Sheppard, Russell Leroy Sheppard and Carl Richard Sheppard; and a nephew, Terry L. Young.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held Saturday, March 12, 2011, at 3 p.m. at St. Matthew's United Methodist Church, corner of High and Franklin streets, Hagerstown. The Rev. Jerry L. Lowans will officiate.  Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Matthew's United Methodist Church, 443 W. Franklin Street, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
