Township gets $9,999 check for cruiser cameras

WAYNESBORO, Pa. — The Washington Township (Pa.) Supervisors have received a check for $9,999 to reimburse them for cameras installed in police cruisers.

The funding from a Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency grant is targeted for four cameras. That equipment was installed in cruisers Dec. 8.

Police Chief Barry Keller said the department has one additional camera. He has said the footage could provide evidence during prosecution.

Special event permit issued to American Odyssey Relay Race

WAYNESBORO, Pa. — A special event permit has been issued to organizers of the American Odyssey Relay Race, which will pass through Washington Township, Pa., on April 29.

The township supervisors issued the permit Wednesday on the condition race organizers coordinate with the police department for safety concerns.

"They're running through Pine Hill (Regional Recreation Area) this year," Washington Township Manager Mike Christopher said.

The race from Gettysburg, Pa., to Washington, D.C., started in 2009.
