Dogs compete at training center

Nine dogs competed in three games at the Peaceable Paws training center in Fairplay.

The winners were:

Tennis ball catch: first place (tie) — Mya, a 3-year-old curly-coated retriever owned by James Wagner of Hagerstown; first place (tie) — Harley, a 4-year-old hound mix owned by Katie Ervin of Hagerstown; third place — Annie, a 7-year-old whoodle (wheaten terrier/poodle) owned by Shawn Alton of Hagerstown.

Find it: first place — Grace, a 2-year-old Belgian tervuren owned by Kristy Pottol of Hagerstown; second place — Gretel, a 4-year-old German shepherd mix owned by James Latonick of Martinsburg, W.Va.; third place — Katie Ervin and Harley.

Musical sits: first place — James Latonick and Gretel; second place — Shawn Alton and Annie; third place — Katie Ervin and Harley.

Senior center calendar

Friday — Cards/dominoes, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. "Walk Away the Pounds," 11 a.m. to noon; strength training, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; chair yoga, 1 to 2 p.m.   

Monday, Feb. 28 — Line dancing, 10 to 11 a.m.; salsa dancing, 11 to 11:30 a.m.; cards/dominoes, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; "Walk Away the Pounds," 11 a.m. to noon.

The senior center is  at 626 Washington Ave. in Hagerstown. It is open to all senior citizens ages 55 and older.

SHHS Class of 1971

The South Hagerstown High School's Class of 1971 will celebrate its 40-year class reunion Saturday, Oct. 1, at Beaver Creek Country Club.

If you know someone from this class who is living out of town, please pass this information on to them. This was a large graduating class and it is a challenge to keep track of everyone.

Plates for Pets Fundraiser

Always Ron's restaurant will host a fundraiser titled "Plates for Pets" Wednesday, March 9, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. to benefit the Humane Society of Washington County.

The event will be held at 29 N. Burhans Blvd. in Hagerstown. Ten percent of the food proceeds from each bill that day will be donated to the shelter. Diners are welcome to bring items to donate to the shelter. A cash donation jar will also be available.

Shrove Tuesday doughnuts planned

The children's division of Washington Square United Methodist Church will hold its annual doughnut sale on Tuesday, March 8, which is Shrove Tuesday.

Doughnuts cost $2.25 per dozen.

Place orders by calling the church office at 301-739-2653 or Patty Weigand at 301-790-3510.The church is at 538 Washington Ave., next to Western Enterprise Fire Hall.

There is plenty of parking to the rear of the church.

Proceeds go to the children's division for its trip to Manidokan United Methodist Church Camp and other projects.
