February 22, 2011

A Martinsburg, W.Va., man has been charged in a stabbing of a Hagerstown man at the Third Base Tavern Sunday morning, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

Cody Aaron Ashby, 19, was charged with first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, use of a dangerous and deadly weapon with the intent to injure and carrying a concealed weapon, a sheriff's office news release said.

Ashby was being held in the Eastern Regional Jail in Berkeley County, W.Va., awaiting an extradition hearing, sheriff's office officials said Tuesday.

The Berkeley County Sheriff's Department assisted the Washington County Sheriff's Office in the arrest of Ashby on Tuesday, the release said.

Ricky Myers of Hagerstown was stabbed in the stomach about 2 a.m. Sunday at the Third Base Tavern at 35 N. Conococheague St., police said.

Myers was in fair condition at Meritus Medical Center Tuesday afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Ashby was identified through a video surveillance camera inside the bar which captured the fight, police said.

A bartender who was familiar with Ashby helped identify him, police said.
