REACH shelter in need of items

The REACH Cold Weather Shelter/Day Resource Center is in need of the following items:

Cereal, sugar (bags or shakers), coffee, napkins, Clorox wipes, cleaning products, toilet paper and 55-gallon trash bags (or lawn and leaf bags).

TOPS 0446

C.K. was the thinner winner of the week with a loss of 2.8 pounds for TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 0446. Joann P. won the Ha-Ha prize. The chapter welcomed Teena as a new member. She joined in time to enter the chapter’s new “Buddy Up and Slim Down” contest. Mary drew names to pair the group into teams to support and encourage one another for the next six weeks.

Meetings are Wednesdays from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 19731 Shiloh Church Road in Hagerstown. Weigh in is from 8:45 to 9:20 a.m.

Thrift shop holding winter clothing sale

The Meritus Medical Center Auxiliary is holding its winter clothing clearance sale through Saturday. All prices for winter clothing and books are reduced by 50 percent.

The shop is at 18706 Crestwood Drive behind Dunkin’ Donuts on Pennsylvania Avenue in Hagerstown. The shop is open Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4  p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

All sales are final and all profits are given to enhance patient care at the new Meritus Medical Center.

TOPS 0077

Losses for the week totaled 47 1/2 pounds for TOPS Chapter 0077.

The best TOPS losers were Pat Hicks and Janice Frye. The best KOPS losers were Kathy Renner, Joan Budny, Lou Marletta and Judy Purdham. Barb Trumpower won the Ha-Ha prize and Hicks won the Get-R-Done prize.  The no-no snack for this week is candy.

Monthly awards for January were presented.  The division-one winner was Valerie Eccard and the division-two winner was Terrie Hendricks. Carol MacDougall and Bonnie Barnhart received charms for 10-pound losses.  

Inge Yungwirth and Deloris Hays had perfect attendance with no gains. Honored KOPS for the month were Mary Jo Kemper, Dina Norris and Joan Budny. Forty members had perfect attendance for January. Ten KOPS members were at or below goal for the month.

January’s shining stars were Patsy Price and Patsy Martin. Elsie Horst announced the winners for the January contest: TOPS — Valerie Eccard; and KOPS — Jean Betker.

The group meets Mondays at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave. in Hagerstown.  Weigh-in is from 7 to 9:15 a.m. and the meeting is from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
