Boonsboro eighth-graders work with Micah's Backpack program

Students put together lunches for the hungry

February 21, 2011

The Boonsboro Middle School advisory program has added a community service component for students and will be using a grant approved by the Washington County Public Schools’ We Believe Foundation to provide “Helping Hands”  for the Micah’s Backpack organization.

Teachers Jaime Schwab and Amanda Kline submitted a grant request focusing on putting together lunches for the hungry.

The Boonsboro Middle students and staff are working with the Micah’s Backpack organization to coordinate food donations through county elementary schools.

“It was very important to have our eighth-grade students helping other students. Kids helping kids is what this program is all about,” Kline said.

Boonsboro’s eighth-grade students  have a goal of putting together as many as 30 backpacks stocked with breakfast, lunch and dinner items.
