Firefighters battle brush fires Friday night

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. — Firefighters battled brush fires amid high winds Friday night in Washington County, Md., and Jefferson County, W.Va., emergency officials said.

One fire was reported at about 6:25 p.m. in the 3100 block of Harpers Ferry Road, in southern Washington County, a county emergency dispatcher said. That fire burned about two acres, the dispatcher said.

A second brush fire was reported at about 7:45 p.m. in the 400 block of Billmyer Mill Road, northwest of Shepherdstown, W.Va., said Lt. Jayson Moore of the Shepherdstown Fire Department. That fire burned about half an acre, Moore said.

Both fires were out by about 9 p.m., officials said.
