Paul and Betty Wolfensberger celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with more than 100 friends and relatives attending at Summerland Community Center.

The couple eloped in 1941, telling their parents they were going on a date. After attending an early showing of "Gone with the Wind," Paul knocked on a reverend's door, and the gentleman was willing to conduct the ceremony. Within the same afternoon, the newlyweds found a furnished apartment, and Paul, then earning $12 a week, reported for his evening shift. The next morning, they gave the news to their parents.

They have three children, six grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

Mrs. Wolfensberger retired from the Maryland Ribbon Co.

Mr. Wolfensberger, working since childhood and having served in World War II in the Army Air Corps, remained a retail professional most of his life since the war. They have traveled, enjoying beaches, mountain ranges and whitewater rafting. Mr. Wolfensberger still volunteers at Robinwood Medical Center.

They enjoy bingo, church and dinners out each week.
