Alexis Baugher wins poetry contest

Alexis Baugher won the poetry contest at the Beginnings Day Care in Keedysville, one of the many events that occurred at Beginnings Daycare in the past few months.  

Other activities included collecting yard sale items to raise funds for families undergoing kidney transplants, collecting items for the local animal shelter and collecting socks for the homeless.  

The children also made placemats for the residents at Farhney-Keedy home and built bird houses for the daycare grounds.  

Beginnings Day Care of Keedysville provides care to those ages 2 to 12 in the Boonsboro, Keedysville and Sharpsburg communities. It is in the Community Center (the "Old Keedysville School") on Mount Vernon Drive.

Brethren Church to hold hymn sing  

Sharpsburg Church of the Brethren, at 123 E. Main St., Sharpsburg, will hold a hymn sing Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Camp Shepherd's Spring. There will be old-time singing and refreshments. Proceeds will go to the church's scholarship fund.

Ruritan to hold dinner  

Rohrersville Ruritan will hold an oyster, ham and turkey dinner Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Rohrersville Ruritan School House Building. Tickets cost $14 for adults, $7 for those ages 6 to 12 and are free for those 5 and younger.  The buffet-style meal includes mashed potatoes, stuffing, green beans, sauerkraut and dessert. Carry-out will be available. Bring your own container.  

The Ruritan will also hold a soup and sandwich sale ending April 1. Country ham, city ham and turkey sandwiches cost $3 apiece. Chicken corn, vegetable and bean soups cost $4 a quart. Orders can be placed at the oyster dinner or by calling J.R. at 301-791-2369.

Sharpsburg Little League  

Sharpsburg Little League will hold a final registration Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at  Sharpsburg Bible Church on the corner of South Potomac and West Antietam Streets in Sharpsburg.  

Registration is for those ages 4 to 12.

St. James Brethren to hold indoor yard sale  

St. James Brethren Church, at 17718 Lappans Road, will hold an indoor yard sale Saturday, Feb. 26, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.   

The all-you-can-eat breakfast includes sausage, country ham, scrambled eggs, coffee or orange juice. The breakfast costs $6.

A soup and sandwich lunch will also be available.
