MAUGANSVILLE — • The Maugansville Fire Co. will hold a basket bingo Sunday, Feb. 27. For tickets, call 301-573-8058.

• The fire company is starting a new recruit class. Stop by the fire station and fill out an application. The fire company is also looking for 14- and 15-year-olds for its cadet program. Applications are available at the fire station.

• Bingo is held Thursday nights. There will be a special bingo Thursday, March 3. Every game pays at least $100 (excluding early birds). Food will be available.

• On Jan. 22, the fire company held its annual awards banquet. Some of this year's award recipients are: Firefighter of the Year, Brandon Grinder; Runner-up Firefighter of the Year, Carl Martin; Rookie of the Year, John Arnold; Runner-up Rookie of the Year, Kristen Resh.

The Carpenter Memorial Award was presented to Josh Watkins for his hours of fundraising for the organization. Special awards were presented to Brian Pile for seven years of service as vice president of the organization and to Leonard Horst for 34 years of service as an apparatus operator and firefighter.

Pancake breakfast

Maugansville Ruritan Club will hold a pancake breakfast Saturday, Feb. 26, from 6:30 to 11 a.m. at its building on Maugans Avenue.  

The all-you-can-eat breakfast includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage and sausage gravy. The meal will be served with juice, coffee or tea. Tickets cost $5.50 for adults, $3 for those ages 6 to 12, and are free for those 5 and younger.

There is plenty of free parking and the lines move fast.  

All proceeds help support the many projects the Ruritan Club sponsors.  

The next breakfast will be March 26.

AAUW collecting books

AAUW will collect books for its used books sale, starting Feb. 28. A shed will be placed by the door at 1000 Florida Ave. with a sign on the door. The book sale will be April 14 to 16. Half-price day will be Saturday, April 16.

'Plates for Pets'

Always Ron's restaurant will host a fundraiser titled "Plates for Pets" Wednesday, March 9, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. to benefit the Humane Society of Washington County.

The event will be held at 29 N. Burhans Blvd. in Hagerstown. Ten percent of the food proceeds from each bill that day will be donated to the shelter. Diners are welcome to bring items to donate to the shelter. A cash donation jar will also be available.
