Thomas Woodrow Evans, 70, of 611 Sunset Ave., Hagerstown, Md., went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011, surrounded by his family.

Born Wednesday, June 26, 1940, in Moorefield, W.Va., he was the son of the late Donald Woodrow Evans and the late Sarah Catherine Siever Evans.

He graduated from South Hagerstown High School in 1958. In 2007, Tom graduated from Life Christian University, where he received a bachelor's degree in theology.

He was employed at Mack Trucks Inc. for more than 30 years, retiring in 1995. Tom was the founder and owner of Shepherd's Table Christian Book Stores in Hagerstown, Frederick and Martinsburg. He formerly served as president of Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship for 10 years.

He was the originator of the Wednesday night gospel concerts at City Park, and formerly served as an associate pastor at Cutting Edge Ministries.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley Shaw Evans; three sons, Thomas C. Evans of Hagerstown, Daniel W. Evans of Lynchburg, Ohio, and Paul A. Evans of Chambersburg, Pa.; two sisters, Susan K. Haugh and Judith A. Browning, both of Hagerstown; one brother, Donald G. Evans of Hagerstown; grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and cousins.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, at 2 p.m. from Cutting Edge Ministries, 32 East Ave., Hagerstown, with Pastor Brett McKoy officiating.

The family will receive friends at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18.

Interment will be private with the family.
