Three injured in head-on crash on U.S. 340

KNOXVILLE, Md. — Three people were injured Monday night in a head-on crash on U.S. 340 at Keep Tryst Road, Maryland State Police said in a news release.

At about 8:48 p.m., according to police, a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse driven by Ricky Ritchie of Broadway, Va., entered U.S. 340 traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes. At Keep Tryst Road, the Eclipse struck a 2004 Toyota van driven by Jose Rivas of Germantown, Md.

Rivas and his wife, Maria Rivas, were trapped in their vehicle following the crash. U.S. 340 was closed for about 30 minutes while emergency crews worked to free them from the wreckage, the release said.

Maria Rivas and Ritchie were airlifted from the scene, according to the release.  

Rivas was taken to Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown and Jose Rivas was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital, police said.
