Shot fired on Taylors Landing Road

Police responded to the 16000 block of Taylors Landing Road Tuesday afternoon after someone called 911 about a man shooting a gun, Washington County Sheriff Douglas Mullendore said.

A group of police responded to the scene, where it was determined the man fired a gun in the air, Mullendore said.

Unlike some municipalities that have laws controlling the firing of guns, it is legal in the county, Mullendore said.

"There's nothing you can do about that, as long as you're not shooting toward a residence," Mullendore said.

The shot was fired at a home at 16716 Taylor's Landing Road, Mullendore said.

Mullendore said police made contact with the man and it was determined that he simply wanted to fire the gun.

Taylors Landing Road is off Bakersville Road north of Sharpsburg.

Mobile home fire closes U.S. 11 for 45 minutes

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Officials had to close U.S. 11 in southern Berkeley County for about 45 minutes Tuesday afternoon while firefighters battled a fire at a vacant mobile home, South Berkeley Volunteer Fire Co. Capt. Kenny Barrett said.

Firefighters were dispatched at 3:17 p.m. to 12459 Winchester Ave. in Ridgeway, where they found the trailer engulfed in flames, Barrett said.

No one was injured, but heat from the blaze caused damage to vinyl on a garage nearby, Barrett said.

Firefighters from Back Creek Valley, the 167th Airlift Wing of the West Virginia Air National Guard, Clear Brook, Va., and the Berkeley County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management also responded to the blaze near Gables Night Club, Barrett said.

The road closure was needed to access water, Barrett said.
