Robert Edward Calimer died in his home on Feb. 13, 2011.

Born in Highfield, Md., on Jan. 7, 1914, he was a son of the late Robert Leslie Calimer and Mary Wastler Calimer.

He served in the United States Coast Guard for more than 30 years. At the time of his retirement, he was CO at the USCG Communications Station Portsmouth at Pungo.

After he retired, he worked as manager for Beacon Electronic for approximately 24 years.

He was a member of Bethel Church of Christ in Cascade, Md., honorary member of the Gates County Hunt Club, a member of Military Officers Association of America, the NRA and the American Legion.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Grace Stottlemyer Calimer; a son, Thomas Edward Calimer; and a granddaughter, Amber Kirby. He was also predeceased by three sisters, Alma Wagness, Nellie Stottlemyer and Rose Holtz; four brothers, Harvey D. Calimer, H. Lee Calimer, Calvin Calimer and Thaddeus Calimer; and two infant brothers.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 47 years, Eris Eure Calimer; a daughter, Joyce C. Branson and husband, Chuck, of Moneta, Va.; and a son, Robert Eure Calimer of Virginia Beach. Also surviving are his beloved grandchildren, Zane Branson, Serbia, Bette Brand, Roanoke, Va., Mark Branson, Virginia Beach, and Lea Branson, Richmond; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary C. Gill.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, Feb. 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk, Va. A graveside service with military honors will be held Thursday, Feb. 17, at 11 a.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens followed by a memorial service to be held at 12:30 p.m. at Beachlawn Baptist Church, Virginia Beach.
