Fire destroys mobile home in Kearneysville

February 14, 2011

KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. — Authorities were investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a mobile home Sunday night at 264 Hillcrest Drive in Kearneysville, Middleway Vol. Fire Co. Chief Michael Mood said.

The fire was called at about 11:10 p.m. and firefighters arrived at the scene about 10 minutes later, Mood said.

“When I arrived on the scene it was about 80 percent involved,” he said. “I would say we had it under control within an hour of the original dispatch.”

Mood said he estimated that the fire caused about $100,000 in damages to the mobile home, its contents and two vehicles that were parked nearby.

He said the woman who lived there was not home at the time of the fire and that she found a place to stay.

More than 10 fire companies, including Independent, Friendship and Shepherdstown, responded to the scene, Mood said.
