February 14, 2011

BLUE RIDGE SUMMIT, Pa. — The driver in Saturday’s fatal accident in Washington Township, Pa., remained hospitalized Monday, a spokeswoman said.

Shawn LaCasse, age unavailable, of Waynesboro, was listed in satisfactory condition at York (Pa.) Hospital Monday morning, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Two people died and LaCasse was injured Saturday in a two-car collision in the 14300 block of Buchanan Trail East, near the intersection of Old Route 16, according to a news release from the Franklin County coroner.

The accident was at the top of the mountain, near where the passing lane ends on Pa. 16, which is also known as Buchanan Trail East in that area.

Ernest B. Angle, 64, of Waynesboro, was driving a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire westbound on Buchanan Trail at about 1 p.m. when an eastbound 2007 Subaru ran off the south berm and crossed the roadway into the path of Angle’s vehicle, the news release from Franklin County Cornoner Jeffrey R. Conner said.

The Sunfire then struck the Subaru broadside in the passenger door, killing Angle and Amy Michelle Hummer, 25, also of Waynesboro, who was a passenger in the Subaru, the release said.

LaCasse was taken to York Trauma Center, according to police.
