Hancock used a consistent rotation that got every player on the score sheet in the Panthers’ 74-15 rout of Paw Paw Friday.

“We got all the kids in tonight, which is what we wanted to do,” Hancock coach Todd Ruppenthal said. “I was really pleased with how everyone played tonight.”

Maureen Leavy paced Hancock (6-10) with a double-double, scoring 20 points and collecting 10 rebounds. Sara Wagner added 14 points and eight rebounds, while Lyndsay Himes scored 10 points with eight rebounds.

“I thought we moved the ball well and looked for each other well,” Ruppenthal said. “We did a nice job rebounding, too.”

A mildly competitive first quarter saw Hancock grab an early 16-8 lead that it never relinquished. The Panthers’ defense shut down Paw Paw in the second and third quarters, not allowing a single point to be scored.

“We’re a young team and we have to start two freshmen,” Paw Paw coach Lana Loya said. “But we’ve come a long way since the beginning of the season.”

Hancock held a 29-8 advantage at halftime and exploded for 23 points in the third quarter. The Panthers moved the ball around well most of the game, piling up 17 team assists. Kelly Edgerton led Hancock with eight.

The Pirates (2-14) never gave up, albeit they were scoreless for close to 20 minutes. Brandi Kidwell ended the scoreless streak with 6:13 left in the fourth quarter. She led Paw Paw with six points.

“(Paw Paw) tried hard but couldn’t move the ball well. They worked hard and never gave up,” Ruppenthal said.

Hancock had a 22-point fourth quarter that put the kibosh on the game.

“Starting tonight we’re going to have five games in six days, so this was a nice start to that,” Ruppenthal said.

JV: Hancock 30, St. James 6 (H: Morgan Bain 8 points).
