SMITHSBURG — One milestone simply wasn’t enough for Katie Sprecher.

The Smithsburg senior scored 35 points on Monday night to join the 1,000-point club, break a 13-year-old school mark for points in a single game and outscore Clear Spring on her own as the Leopards cruised to a 95-33 win in an MVAL Antietam matchup.

“It was exciting,” Sprecher said. “I just look for my shot and go to the basket. I got great passes from my teammates. Everyone contributes in every game.”

Sprecher entered Monday’s game needing just three points to reach the 1,000-point plateau. She didn’t need long to achieve that, scoring two buckets in the first 1 minute, 20 seconds of the game.

She finished with 13 points in the first quarter as the Leopards built a 26-5 lead.

“We wanted to come out and start the game strong and continue throughout all four quarters,” Sprecher said. “We rebounded well and we pushed the ball up the court.”

Sprecher had 30 points through three quarters, two points shy of Rachel (Bachtell) Brashear’s single-game mark of 32, set in 1998.

“Katie is an awesome player,” Smithsburg coach Katy Barnhart said. “She didn’t disappoint tonight. She has been very consistent for us all year and throughout her entire career.”

Both Taylor Belella and Sara Rishell had double-doubles for Smithsburg (16-1, 11-1). Belella had 14 points and 10 assists, while Rishell had 10 points, 13 rebounds, five assists and four blocked shots. Apryl Lee had eight rebounds and Danielle Harbaugh grabbed seven.

Jess Barnhart led Clear Spring (2-15, 0-12) with 16 points. Heather Schlotterbeck had six assists and Alexa Mills made four steals.

In the JV game, Kinsey Shifflett also outscored the opposing team with 13 points as Smithsburg won, 48-9. Jenna Knable led Clear Spring with six points.
