Mildred C. (Provard) Thomas, 89, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, at  Williamsport Retirement Village.

Born May 30, 1921, in Montgomery County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Victor C. and Ruth Liti Alice (Bingaman) Provard.

Mildred was a former member of Grace United Methodist Church in Hagerstown.

She was a devoted homemaker, and loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Mildred was very proud of her employment at the following companies in the Hagerstown area: Hoover Frozen Custard on Pennsylvania Avenue, Woolworth’s and McCrory’s department stores downtown and various Washington County school cafeterias.

She is survived by her husband, Edwin C. Thomas Sr.; her two daughters, Shirley L. Bartgis of Westminster, Calif., and Darlene K. Snyder of Hagerstown; and her two sons, Henry C. Thomas of Sacramento, Calif., and Mikel L. Thomas of Clear Spring, Md. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mildred was preceded in death by her daughter, Beverly M. (Thomas) Gilbert; her son, Edwin C. Thomas Jr.; her sister, Helen Bowers; and two grandchildren.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Robert V. Robinson will officiate. Burial will follow at the Broadfording Bible Brethren Church Cemetery in Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, at the funeral home.
