Robert Jackson Saum, 83, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown.

Born Tuesday, March 8, 1927, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Robert Kenneth Saum and the late Nora Belle Linebaugh Saum.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Reese Saum, in 1979.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.

Robert was employed at Mack Trucks Inc., retiring after more than 30 years of service.

He was a member of Valley Assembly of God.

He is survived by his second wife of 22 years, Ruth R. Saum; a daughter, Pam S. Saum of Hagerstown; stepdaughter, Shirley Pereschuk of Hagerstown; stepson, Jerry L. Faulders of Falling Waters, W.Va.; three sisters, Janice Caniford of Boca Raton, Fla., Dorothy Hoffman of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Josephine Swope of Union Bridge, Md.; one brother, Donald Saum of Hagerstown; one grandchild, Donald C. Saum of Hagerstown; three stepgrandchildren, Pam Mauplin of Hagerstown, Jerry G.I. Faulders of Falling Waters and Preston Pereschuk of Smithsburg, Md.; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Larry Mauplin of Hagerstown and Kayla Pereschuk of Martinsburg, W.Va.; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Alvin and Pat Carpenter of Falling Waters.

Services will be held Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, with Pastor Robert Jones officiating.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10.

Interment will be at Beaver Creek Cemetery, Beaver Creek, Md.
