Mail Call - Feb. 8

February 07, 2011

“For those of you who blame the Obama administration for lack of jobs: Read the national votes in the Sunday paper: Voting 184 to 242 against a Democratic bid to use H Res 38 to curb the practice of U.S. companies sending jobs overseas. And guess how our Rep. Bartlett, as well as Shuster (Pa.) and Capito (W.Va.) voted — no, of course, along with the rest of the Republicans. And you want us to believe the Republicans have the interest of the working people in this country?”
— Smithsburg
“Help me understand, Social Security is in such bad shape, so we are being told, then how can our wise representatives in Washington reduce our payments into the fund by 2 percent this year? Does this make any sense to you? Is it any wonder they have no credibility?”
— Greencastle, Pa.
“Calling concerning Friday, Jan. 28, someone made the remark about senior citizens having something more coming to them, that they should have saved money. Well. ... A lot of them only make 2-something an hour, they worked their butts off, and they deserve more.”
— Clear Spring
“I’m reading Sunday’s paper on here at the bottom of the front page, about employment. So this is on employment. Maryland jobless rate, they got it down here at 7.4 percent. Is this people in the state of Maryland goofy or what? I know people that’s comes to a place of business that they’re talking about ain’t got a job, can’t find a job, and everything else. The trouble with Maryland is they don’t count the people ... that can’t draw unemployment anymore and still don’t have jobs.”
— Hagerstown
“I live in a neighborhood where everyone has beautiful bird feeders out, but they are empty all winter. Come on, folks, bird feeders have a purpose, and that purpose is to feed the birds. So put on your boots and your gloves, and make your yard birds happy by filling their little empty stomachs.”
— Clear Spring
“I was just wondering if anybody has ever experienced that generic medicine costs more than the brand name of the same medicine. Please leave your comments in Mail Call, and if anybody has any idea of who to contact, please put that in there also. Have a very good day.”
— Hagerstown
“I’m calling about the Keedysville caller and the historic tags, about ‘Get up against the wall.’ What is it with these people? Are they jealous because we have vehicles that are 20 years old, that we take care of them and don’t have car payments? Is that what it is? Maybe if this guy wouldn’t spend $500 a month on a car payment, maybe he’d feel a little different. Have a great day.”
— Big Pool
“This is concerning marriages. I know the same-sex marriages is wrong, and I don’t know why our county lawmakers have mixed reactions.”
— Hagerstown
“I just want to tell parents that drop off their kids at Salem Avenue Elementary they need to be a little more courteous to other drivers in the parking lot, and they need to pull into the parking lots and not stop in the travel lanes just to drop their kids off. Tag numbers are taken down, and you will be reported to the school and they will tell you about it. It’s ridiculous. People need to learn how to park in parking spaces, and also, people that pull in alleys need to pull their vehicles out of the travel lanes.”
— Hagerstown
“After reading the article in Sunday’s paper about Gov. O’Malley’s budget and his spending habits, why should anybody be surprised that this man is gonna try to cut anything from the budget? He’s a big-time liberal tax-and-spender, just like Obama, and if he has the dime in his hand, he’ll spend it.”
— Hagerstown
