MOUNT AIRY, Md. — Joseph Howard Doyle, 79, of Mount Airy, died Friday morning, Feb. 4, 2011, at the Lorien Nursing Home, from influenza.  

He was the husband of June Marie Doyle, his wife of 49 years.

Born in Hagerstown, Md., on Dec. 21, 1931, he was the son of the late F. Elizabeth McClane Conrad and Charles Sylvester Doyle.

Joseph worked as an X-ray technician at Washington County and Frederick Memorial hospitals.

He received his bachelor’s degree in economics from Shepherd College in 1963. After receiving his degree, he worked as a systems analyst for the Social Security Administration in Baltimore, Md., until 1988. In August of 1988, he suffered a catastrophic cerebral hemorrhage that ended his career.

Joe loved his family, animals, music, electronics and communications. He participated in the Frederick Amateur Radio Club and supported Frederick County Civil Defense operations. He was also a lifetime member of the American Radio Relay League, call letters WA3OHI.

Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Tina Marie Faecke of Mount Airy and Deidre Lee Plitt of Columbia, Md.; four grandchildren, Krista Marie Faecke, Morgan Elena Plitt, Shelby Marie Plitt and Brian Edward Plitt; and three half brothers, Gerald L. Doyle, Charles S. Doyle and Thomas I. Conrad, all of Hagerstown.  

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, at Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home, 2601 Ridge Road, Damascus, Md.  

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, at Molesworth-Williams Funeral Home. The Rev. Dennis Yocum will officiate. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Mount Airy.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church, 403 S. Main St., Mount Airy, MD 21771.
