Haupt named to Presidents' Athletic Conference Honor Roll

Local gridiron standout Scott Haupt has received yet another honor. Haupt, a freshman at Waynesburg University, has been named to the Presidents' Athletic Conference Honor Roll. Haupt, one of seven football players at WU to be named, has a 3.6 grade-point average in his major of pre-physical therapy. He is the son of Stacey and Brian Haupt of Boonsboro.

Indoor yard sale to be held Feb. 26

St. James Brethren Church on Lappans Road will hold its annual indoor yard sale Saturday, Feb. 26, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Bargains, treasures and food will be available for purchase. For more information, call 301-582-3343.

Money bonanza set for March 12

The Boonsboro Athletic Boosters Inc. at Boonsboro High School will hold a money bonanza/silent auction Saturday, March 12, to raise money for the schoolwide scoreboard project.
 
The project involves replacing all the school’s scoreboards (football, baseball, softball, track and an interactive display board in the gym.) The group’s goal for this fundraising event is $5,000. Purchase of an event ticket admits two people for a catered dinner, music and dancing, silent auction and the chance to win up to $1,000. Silent-auction items include professional and local sports memorabilia, golf packages and gift certificates. Tip jars and 50/50 raffles also will be available.

Vendors sought for Green Fest

Vendor sign-up is now under way for Boonsboro’s next Green Fest, slated for May 7 at Shafer Park.

Potential vendors can apply online by going to www.boonsborogreenfest.com and clicking on “Vendors & Exhibitors” for directions to the interactive application form.

The registration fee is $20 for a 10-foot-square space.

The deadline for applying is April 1.

Additionally, many service opportunities exist.

Those wishing to volunteer the day of the festival are encouraged to register online by going to www.boonsborogreenfest.com and clicking on the “Volunteer Sign Up” link at the top right.

Students may earn up to 12 student service learning hours during the event.

Deadline for volunteer registration is April 23.

Gun bonanza

First Hose Co. of Boonsboro is planning for its next gun bonanza, to be held Saturday, April 16, at Cochran Auction Complex on Mapleville Road. Tickets for dinner, dancing and the drawing cost $30, and admit two people. Paid admission includes chances to win one of many firearms. For tickets, call 301-432-2348 or 301-573-2773.

Dinner planned


Rohrersville Ruritan will hold a ham, oyster and turkey dinner Saturday, Feb. 19, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Rohrersville Ruritan schoolhouse in Rohrersville. The meal will include mashed potatoes, filling, green beans, sauerkraut and dessert, all served buffet-style. Tickets cost $14 for adults and $7 for those ages 6 to 12.  Carryouts are welcome, but you must bring your own containers.

Scholarships available


The Community Foundation of Washington County has several scholarships available to graduating seniors at Boonsboro High School. Applications and instructions for the Joseph Ellis Memorial Scholarship, the BHS Class of 1970 Scholarship, the South County Scholarship and the Ryan Myers Scholarship are available in the guidance office at BHS, or by calling the Community Foundation at 301-745-5210.
